Explanation

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a set of technical standards that define how learning content communicates with an LMS (Learning Management System). A SCORM package is a ZIP file containing training content and an XML manifest describing its structure. When a learner launches a SCORM module in their LMS, the content sends data back: progress, score, time spent, and status (completed, passed, failed). SCORM exists in two major versions: SCORM 1.2 (the most widespread, simple) and SCORM 2004 (richer, with advanced sequencing). In immersive contexts, SCORM enables the integration of VR/360° experiences into any compatible LMS (Moodle, 360Learning, Cornerstone, Talentsoft) and reports quiz results and interactive pathway scores. EasyStory 360 supports SCORM 1.2 and 2004 export, making it easy to integrate immersive training modules into any LMS.

Real-world example

A safety training module created on EasyStory 360 is exported as a SCORM package, imported into Moodle, and the VR quiz scores automatically appear in the learner's gradebook.

Versions and uses

SCORM 1.2

  • Compatible with 95% of LMS platforms on the market
  • Ideal for simple modules with quizzes and a final score

Example: A VR quiz exported as SCORM 1.2 reports the score and pass/fail status in Moodle

SCORM 2004

  • Adaptive pathways with prerequisites between modules
  • Tracking of multiple learning objectives per module

Example: A 5-scene VR pathway where each scene has its own objective and the next scene only unlocks after validation
